REPORT FROM THE "OVER THE HILLS BUSHWALKING GROUP"On Saturday, 27/3/10-Sunday, 28/3/10, we had our weekend in the Blue Mountains. We had 10 walkers – a lovely walk with beautiful views. We enjoyed a pleasant afternoon tea at Blackheath before driving to Hampton. Four more people joined us for our night at the Hampton Halfway House Hotel. It is always an enjoyable evening - with good food, drinks and great company. This year we were very successful picking mushrooms on the Sunday. On Sunday, 2/5/10, six walkers did the Whale Rock Circuit in Pennant Hills Park, followed by a pleasant afternoon tea in a nearby cafe. On Sunday, 30/5/10, we had planned to walk the Forest Island Path in the Royal National Park. Due to the rain all week and the forecast of a possible cyclone on that Sunday, it was decided on Saturday night to cancel the walk. Of course Sunday then turned out to be a sunny day!! On Sunday, 27/6/10, we will walk around Narrabeen Lagoon to Narrabeen Head (2 lookouts) and along Turimetta Beach to Turimetta Head (passing Mullet, Cockle & She Oak Lookouts) and on to Warriewood Beach. After the walk we will go to the Pittwater RSL for lunch. Meet at 10 AM near the Warriewood Surf Life Saving Club for a car shuttle to the start of walk. Phone Ella by 25/6/10 if coming on this walk.
On Sunday, 18/7/10 (N.B. not 25/7), we will walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge. Meet in Broughton Street, Milsons Point, near the steps to the bridge footway, at 10 AM. After the walk we will visit the Rocks Market and have lunch at the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel. If feeling energetic you can walk back again across the bridge or return to Milsons Point by train. As I will be overseas, Alena has agreed to lead the July and August walks. Phone Alena by 16/7/10 (9477 5563) if coming on this walk.
On Sunday, 29/8/10, we will do one or two of the walks in the Ku-Ring-Gai Wildflower Garden, 420 Mona Vale Road, St Ives. Entry to the gardens is now free. Meet near the Visitor Centre at 10 AM. Either bring a picnic lunch or there are gas/electric BBQs available if you prefer to cook. Phone Alena by 27/8/10 (9477 5563) if coming on this walk.
On Sunday, 26/9/10, the Austrian Club is holding its AGM at the clubhouse.
On Sunday, 3/10/10, we will do a tour of Rookwood Cemetery. This tour takes 2 ½ hours and costs $15 pp (money used for restoration work at the cemetery). Tour commences at 10 AM. After the walk it is possible to buy a BBQ sausage sandwich ($4) with self-serve salad bar, tea or coffee. I will need to advise the tour guide how many people will be attending. Please phone Ella by 24/9/10 if coming on this walk.
The following couple of walks will be on Sundays 31/10/10 and 28/11/10. Please mark these dates in your diary now and keep them free so that you can join us on our walks.
